Work Delivered On Defense Programs

Our technology products are used by defense contractors in advanced robotics and drone systems. These are the programs that shaped our simulation, autonomy and training practice.

Mobile Detection Assessment and Response System

Working with General Dynamics we developed a closed-loop simulation integrated directly with land-based drones and robotic machine-vision systems. The simulation saved millions in field testing and dramatically improved the development process; post-deployment at the Nevada National Security Site it produced a $6 million infrastructure saving and an estimated $1 million in annual labor savings.

  • Autonomous scheduled patrols or joystick teleoperation
  • Intruder detection at 200 meters and breached-lock detection
  • RF-tagged inventory monitoring across the patrol area
  • One control station supervising up to 16 vehicles
  • Real-time obstacle avoidance with 360-degree sensors
  • Distributed control over a redundant relay/repeater network
TAC-C — Tactical Autonomous Combat - Chassis

TAC-C

Tactical Autonomous Combat - Chassis

Exis built an entire virtual city feeding a closed-loop simulation running against a series of TAC-C platforms. The test deliberately stressed machine-vision systems and complex obstacle-avoidance algorithms in a realistic environment, and we produced variations of the original chassis to show its multi-role capability across engagement type and theatre.

  • Teleoperated control or autonomous mission execution
  • Tasking through a Soldier-Machine Interface device
  • Designed for both manned and unmanned mission needs
STARLite — Sensor Suite Operator Training
Northrop Grumman

STARLite

Sensor Suite Operator Training

Northrop Grumman enlisted Exis to create simulations and CGI videos training drone operators in the deployment and functionality of an advanced sensor suite aboard a Reaper combat drone, covering mission tasking, product operation, information command structure and product life cycle. The program doubled as the primary marketing tool in Northrop's pitch, and the radar sensor was subsequently awarded a $47 million Army contract.

  • Operator training across tasking and sensor operation
  • CGI visualization for senior military decision makers
  • Used as the core marketing asset in a competitive award
VIC-5 — Next-Generation Vehicle Intercom
Northrop Grumman

VIC-5

Next-Generation Vehicle Intercom

Building on that success, Northrop hired Exis to develop further CGI and marketing tools for the VIC-5 intercom program now being tested in Stryker attack vehicles. Our research covered military protocols, combat engagement methodology and communication formats, producing a realistic in-theatre demonstration of the system. VIC-5 represents a $2.4 billion contract and entered First Article Testing in April 2011.

  • Concept realization and product usage case material
  • Operational method demonstration grounded in real protocol
  • Next-generation intercom across Army and Air Force platforms
